This is an art piece that was done more for the technique than the subject. It's an 18x24 canvas that uses chalk, tempra, and ink, then to be totally washed under a faucet, then more chalk and maybe some charcoal. The technique's resulting aged, faded look made me think of cave paintings and tribal art, so I decided to make the subject of how I envision a stylized tribal dancer holding himself and generally LOOKING. Unfortunately, those were not the colors I wanted to end up with, but there's no way to tell how many of your tempra layers will come off during the washing process, and I just got stuck with some that I wasn't overly fond of. I think it turned out alright, though, even if I'd prefer the cloth be a different color. On a good note, I'm actually pretty pleased with how his skin turned out, especially on the arms.
The pattern in the background is something of a personal trick. There are some words hidden in it. The "topaz" part of the name is mostly because of the background color - it's the first gem that comes to mind in that peculiar pink-magenta.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
